Romans (8b): chapter 7:13-25
Have you ever known the right thing to do and still found yourself doing the opposite? Paul describes exactly that struggle in the second half of Romans 7. In this lesson, we consider Paul's vivid depiction of the war between the flesh and the spirit — how sin takes hold of a person's life like an addiction, shaping the mind, forming attitudes, and building appetites that are difficult to break. The picture is bleak, and it's meant to be. Paul's anguished cry, "Who will deliver me from this body of death?" leads to the only answer that matters: deliverance comes through Jesus Christ our Lord — not through the law, and not through our own willpower.
