The Bible reveals a tenuous relationship between “church” and “state” going back through history. There were times when the relationship was mildly favorable to neutral, but there were also times of opposition and persecution. Western Europe has a history of Church-State cooperation and collaboration; much to the detriment of both religion and society. The Founders of the United States had a different vision that has been perverted from “freedom of religion” to “freedom from religion.” This lesson discusses these issues from a biblical perspective.
