World Religions (6): Hinduism
With an estimated 330 million gods and 1.2 billion followers, Hinduism is one of the oldest and most complex false religions in the world. In this lesson, we begin with how the creation account in Genesis 1 directly confronts the kind of polytheism and nature worship that Hinduism represents. We survey Hinduism's layered history, its caste system, major doctrines like karma, samsara, and moksha, and practices ranging from temple worship to pilgrimage. We then contrast Hinduism with Christianity on deity, time, sacred writings, and exclusivity, and close with Paul's approach to the idolaters of Athens in Acts 17 as a model for teaching Hindus the gospel. As Isaiah 44 reminds us, idolatry is not just wrong — it is foolishness.
