Romans (5a): chapter 4:1-12
What did Paul really mean when he said Abraham was justified by faith? In this study of Romans 4:1-12, we dig into Abraham's life before Genesis 15:6 and discover that his faith was never separate from action — he obeyed God's call, built altars, tithed to Melchizedek, and walked in covenant with God long before that famous statement was recorded. We also explore how Paul and James don't contradict each other: Paul argues that perfect works without faith can't save, while James argues that faith without obedience can't save either. Plus, we look at David's testimony in Psalm 32 and what "imputed righteousness" actually means — and why the timing of Abraham's justification before circumcision matters for every believer today.
