In Luke 18:9-14, Jesus presents us with a Pharisee who trusted in himself and a tax collector who trusted in God. The former was prideful and looked down on others. The latter was filled with shame and humility. He recognized his need for salvation and he is someone with whom we ought to identify, because we are all sinners in need of salvation.
